Meet Our Board of Directors
Our Board plays an important role in the growth and sustainability of the Girls on the Run in our community, safeguarding our mission while implementing our strategic plan and living our core values.
Jessica Crate, Board Chair
Jessica Crate is an Elite runner and World Class triathlete. She ran Varsity Track and Cross Country for both A.S.U. and F.S.U. on a Full Academic and Athletic Scholarship. She is a USATF Coach, Yoga Instructor, businesswoman and entrepreneur and is President of her own company, CRATE Consulting LLC, LifeVantage & Atmasphere. She travels nationwide speaking on coaching, training, nutrition and her secret to success, while motivating athletes at any level to pursue their passion with the heart of a champion, even in the midst of adversity. She grew up running, and says her passion lies in giving back, sharing her talents and expertise to help girls learn, grow and enjoy the healthy benefits of fitness and education.
Stephanie Russell Krebs
Stephanie Russell Krebs, Ph.D., is the mother of three, the dean of students at the University of Tampa, and an avid runner. She loves the Girls on the Run program because it combines her passion for empowering young girls with her hobby of running. Stephanie holds a bachelor’s degree in theater/speech from Butler University (IN), a master’s degree from Western Illinois University in College Student Personnel, and a Ph.D. from Colorado State University in Higher Education Leadership. Stephanie's most exciting moment is when she wrote and delivered the invocation for a town hall meeting at the University of Tampa with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in 2010.
Angela Shortt, Board Treasurer
Angela W. Shortt is a native of South Carolina and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. After working professionally in the accounting field, she later earned another bachelor’s from Furman University in accounting. Her years of experience include real estate, tax, and benefits, and she is currently the benefits accountant at Hillsborough Community College. Angela got involved in Girls on the Run simply because of its mission, and her desire to see all girls live up to their potential with great health, joy and confidence. She is a wife and mother of three beautiful girls. In her spare time Angela enjoys cooking, cycling, photography, baking, and spending time with her family.
Erin Berger, Board Member
Erin M. Berger is an attorney at Kelley Kronenberg, a national law firm, who specializes in real property litigation and appeals. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. She is the mother of two smart and hilarious children and is married to a wonderful and supportive husband. Erin has not always loved running, but began running for exercise after law school, and has since has run numerous 5k races and completed a half-marathon in 2015. She has coached Girls on the Run for two years, most currently at the elementary school that her children attend. Erin is proud to be involved with Girls on the Run because she loves working with girls to achieve goals, recognize their self-worth, and empower them to be confident and happy.
Jacque Boyer, Board Member
Jacque L. Boyer earned a Bachelors Degree in Nutrition and Fitness from Florida State University. She works for Daiichi Sankyo Inc. as a Senior Hospital Sales Representative.
Her experience in healthcare has allowed the opportunity to work in many different medical specialty areas of medicine. And offering assistance to patients as an advocate in the health care system for medical and pharmacological needs. Jacque prides herself in living a healthy lifestyle; by running, teaching others about living healthy lifestyles, and empowering women and young girls to be their best selves. Her beliefs go hand in hand with the Girls on The Run Mission and she is very proud to involved with the organization . She enjoys spending time with her husband, three children, family, and friends. Jacque believes that her life purpose is to generously serve others and to make a positive difference for today, tomorrow, and future generations.
Christie Bruner, Board Member
Christie has a vested interest in health and wellness initiatives in our community, and has more than 20 years of experience with sports and fitness for both children and adults. From 2006-2016, she owned and operated a Baby Boot Camp franchise: a cardio and strength training workout for moms incorporating their little ones in strollers. Christie is a former NCAA All-American swimmer and an avid runner. Christie has a B.S. degree in Exercise Science and is an AFAA Certified Personal Trainer. She coached her first Girls on the Run season in Spring 2017, and her daughter Jocelyn was on the team.
Christie has three daughters, a fabulous husband, several part time jobs and also actively volunteers in the community. Christie is the Youth Wellness Director for St Pete Run Fest. The 2017 Run Fest will not only feature the first 1/2 marathon in St Pete in over three years, but it is also a priority to include elements of community engagement and family enrichment. She has also been involved with Florida State Legislature regarding a bill mandating recess in elementary schools. She has been instrumental on the local level in Pinellas County as well as the state level bringing awareness healthy school issues.
Kelli Burns, Board Member
Kelli S. Burns, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the Zimmerman School of Advertising and Mass Communications at the University of South Florida. Kelli teaches public relations and strategic communication courses and studies social media. She received her doctorate in mass communication from the University of Florida, her master’s degree in mass communication from Middle Tennessee State University, and her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Vanderbilt University. Kelli is an avid runner, but she didn’t start running until her late 20s. Looking back, she would have enjoyed being a participant in Girls on the Run because it would have inspired her to be more confident about herself and her physical abilities at an earlier age. In addition to running, she enjoys spending time with her husband and teenage son. Kelli also serves on the Girls on the Run race committee.
Jill Collins, Board Member
Jill Collins earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Eckerd College and her MBA from East Tennessee State University. Enjoying a diverse professional career, she describes her current position as Project Manager with Pfizer as a fulfilling opportunity that keeps her “running”. Jill feels fortunate to have been raised by parents who share the Girls on the Run spirit and nurtured her inner girl power from an early age. She also views growing up in Boston as a positive life influence as the city provided a valuable backdrop to discover and develop internal strength and potential. After learning about Girls on the Run and the connection to her personal values and healthy lifestyle beliefs, Jill was committed to paying it forward by supporting the organization and doing her part to inspire girls to be joyful, heathy, and confident. Jill continues to champion the cause by contributing in roles including Coach, Running Buddy, Sparkle Runner and Donor. In addition to having fun alongside the girls, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, participating in triathlons, checking destinations off her travel list and fostering Scottish Terriers.
Jean Howey, Board Member
Holly Johnson, Board Member
A travel, tourism, hospitality and consumer marketing specialist, Holly has more than 30 years of related experience. Before creating a public relations and marketing consulting division of Imagica, she was vice president and director of client services for ClarusPR, an Mphasis Integrated company, headquartered in Denver.
During her tenure with Imagica, Holly has spearheaded campaigns for University Park Country Club and its change from a private to semi-private club, and coordinated openings for Tableseide Restaurant Group’s Libby’s Café & Bar, Louies Modern and The Francis. She also managed the design and development of a Run Sarasota brochure. Current clients and programs include community relations programs for UnitedHealthcare in Florida and the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation children’s medical grant program, promotion of the Big Summer Golf Card, and public relations programs for First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon, University Park Country Club, and Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa in Colorado.
In addition to her public relations work, Holly is also a New Balance inMotion running coach and member of Team New Balance Sarasota, an elite group of adult and masters competitive runners. She has completed 25 marathons (six Boston) as well as over a hundred half marathons and other shorter races. Most recently, she had a 20-year PR at the 2017 Boston Marathon.
Holly is a graduate of the University of Denver and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications. Outside of work and competitive running, she also enjoys cycling, skiing, scuba diving, cooking and traveling.
Sandi Lake, Board Member
Sandi Lake is an almost native of Tampa after her family moved to the area when she was in middle school. She attended Florida State University and received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing from the University of South Florida. Her ties in Tampa's running community run deep as a former member of both the Gasparilla Distance Classic Association Board of Directors and the Tampa Bay Race Council. Currently she is involved in the Tampa Galloway Marathon Training Program and the Run Tampa organization.. Sandi is certified as both a Race Director and Running Coach through the Road Runners Club of America and has been producing running events for conventions and charitable organizations since 2011.
Sandi previously supported the GOTR program as a Running Buddy. She upholds the mission of the program, the positive impact in the lives of its participants and firmly believes that GOTR should be available to all young women!
Katie Lamore, Board Member
Katie Lamore is a native of Rhode Island, however has called Florida home for 13 years. She received her her masters' degrees in social work and public health from The University of South Florida, and her bachelor’s degree in psychology from The University of South Florida. When she became the school social worker at Richey Elementary School in New Port Richey, Florida, she learned about Girls on the Run and knew she had to introduce her students to the program! For two years she has been a Girls on the Run Coach and is hopeful that through her efforts more girls in Pasco County will be able to participate in this amazing experience. In her spare time she enjoys running with her husband, competing in triathlons and visiting with her family in New England.
